of the Herricks Indo-US Community organization
( Not for profit organization): Several
members of Herricks community saw the need for the formation
of an organization to articulate and represent the interests
and concerns of Indians in Herricks diverse community.
The first informal meeting was held on October 6, 2002
in the presence of Dr. Rajesh Patel, Kirit Panchamia,Dr.
Vijay Shah, Dr. Mayank Patel, Dr.Binod Varma, Dr. Sandip
Parikh, Meena Varma and Alka Patel.
Mrs. Hina Panchamia completed the
necessary paperwork and the organization was officially
registered on October 21, 2002. Several meetings were
held on a rotating basis at the homes of different community
members. Each of these meetings attracted increasingly
large number of attendees who supported the goals and
mission of the organization.
The mission statement was finalized on January 11, 2003
by Dr. Kusum Viswanathan, Nalini Chug and Jayshri Pillalamarri.
“The mission of the Herricks Indo-US Community,
Inc is to enable its members to understand the workings
of the Herricks school system and encourage active participation
in it; to enhance communication among the members and
the community at large and to promote community activities
that create an understanding of the Indian culture.
